The latex industry is entering a new era with the introduction of Moreganic, a certification standard focused on biodiversity, regenerative farming, and sustainability. Replacing the long-standing GOLS standard, Moreganic is designed to go beyond traditional organic certification by addressing the broader ecological and social impacts of latex production — from soil health and biodiversity to farmer livelihoods and climate resilience.

A New Model for Rubber Farming

At its core, Moreganic promotes agroforestry – planting multiple complementary crops such as natural rubber, coffee, and honey side by side rather than relying on monoculture plantations. This approach enriches the soil, supports wildlife, and improves farmers’ economic resilience. Instead of rubber plantations that strip the land bare, Moreganic envisions farms that heal ecosystems, rebuild habitats, and sustain communities.

The certification ensures latex is fully traceable from plantation to final product, creating a transparent supply chain that connects regenerative farming practices with global markets. And it isn’t limited to latex: other crops grown in Moreganic-certified forests, including cacao and fruit, can also qualify for certification — expanding income opportunities for farmers and offering consumers more sustainable options.

How Biodiversity Strengthens the Supply Chain

A forest planted with only one type of tree can quickly reach ecological limits. By contrast, Moreganic agroforests cultivate biodiversity by combining different plants and trees, which improves soil health, increases carbon capture, and reduces the need for synthetic chemicals. This diversity also helps control pests naturally, strengthens climate resilience, and supports a wider range of wildlife by stitching fragmented habitats back together.

From bees to birds, Moreganic farms create corridors for species to thrive. And healthier soils lead to healthier crops — including higher-quality latex.

Compliance and Global Standards

Moreganic certification aligns with the EU Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR), meaning certified products meet strict requirements for traceability and sustainability. This helps businesses comply with evolving EU standards while advancing agricultural practices that protect forests and prevent ecosystem degradation.

The certification builds on existing systems for chain-of-custody and auditing, ensuring transparency, traceability, and trust across the supply chain.

The Transition from GOLS to Moreganic

On August 22, 2025, Control Union and Moreganic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the structured transition of the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) into the new Moreganic® Rubber Farm Management Standard. This shift not only ensures continuity for existing GOLS-certified supply chains but also expands the certification’s scope to include:

  • Biodiversity impact
  • Fair labor safeguards
  • Farmer premiums
  • Enhanced traceability

The result is a more holistic standard that reflects the interconnected nature of ecosystems, people, and products.
